| This is the only English translation of a book previously published in Russian. It describes the heroic efforts of Russian Jewish women to obtain exit visas for emigration from the former Soviet Union to the countries of their choice. Galina Nizhnikov was a member of one of the first families to obtain exit visas, after many unsuccessful applications and a period of persecution as a Refusenik. Galina Nizhnikov is the second cousin of Ian Stolerman; their respective branches of the family had not met face-to-face after 1905, until a reunion took place in 1999. |
